Ashville Sports Centre is focusing on something else.

Ashville Sports Centre has announced a new swimming scheme — but also the end of its sports centre membership.

The scheme will see Harrogate School of Swimming provide swimming lessons and courses for children and adults at the centre, which is located on the campus of Ashville College on Yew Tree Lane, Harrogate.

This news come less than a month after the Stray Ferret reported on Ashville stopping its swimming lessons in the new year.

The fee-paying school says the new swimming partnership will widen community access to its facilities, and further strengthen its position as one of the region's leading centres of excellence for sport and wellbeing.

As part of the arrangement, Ashville Swim School families will be given priority to swim with Harrogate School of Swimming and Ashville's café will be open to visitors during weekends.

Richard Rooze from Ashville Sports Centre said:

Our ambition is clear - to focus on sporting excellence and strong partnerships to ensure that our facilities continue to serve the needs of Ashville College pupils and local people for many years to come.

We are particularly delighted to be partnering with Harrogate School of Swimming. As one of the most established and respected swim schools in Harrogate, they share our commitment to quality, inclusivity and building confidence in the water.

Louise Aikman, from Harrogate School of Swimming, said Asville's facilities "provide an excellent environment for teaching swimmers of all ages and abilities" and the partnership would expand opportunities for children, families and adults across the Harrogate district.

But a statement announcing the news today (November 2), added:

In order to facilitate these exciting changes, the sports centre has taken the difficult decision to discontinue its sports centre membership scheme. It has written to its members to provide as much notice as possible.

Membership gices access to Ashville's 30-metre indoor pool as well as the gym, fitness classes and squash, table tennis, tennis and netball facilities.
