A Nidderdale village with less than 800 residents has scooped a £1m Postcode Lottery windfall.
One player bagged £378,272 – the lion’s share of the pot – after HG3 4AP was announced as the winner of the lottery’s Millionaire Street prize in Dacre, near Harrogate, on Sunday 25 October.
But 88 others, including players in surrounding rural communities, are also celebrating after splitting the remainder of the windfall – more than £620,000 – in the wider HG3 4 sector.
It means they have won between £6,155 and £18,465, depending on how many tickets they play with.
Dacre is on a hill overlooking the River Nidd in Nidderdale National Landscape.
Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt said:
Dacre may be a small village, but it now has a million reasons to think big. Congratulations to all 89 of the local players who have shared in this amazing win spread across a beautiful rural area of Yorkshire. What an amazing event to bring everyone in the community together. Hopefully they can all mark it with a big celebration.
Postcode Lottery costs £12.50 a month to play and there are guaranteed winners every day. People play with their chosen postcode and are automatically entered into all draws.
Players have raised more than £1.8 billion for charities and local good causes.
Winning Millionaire Street locations are announced every Saturday but this month there are an additional six Millionaire Street prizes announced between October 25-30.
Dacre is the fourth of those locations. Local charities in each of the 10 winning areas will share a combined total of £1 million.
