Ex-premises of caravan company investigated for fraud to be converted
The former premises of a caravan company in Harrogate which was investigated for fraud and money laundering looks set to be converted.
Steve Mann Caravans, which was based at Claro House on Claro Road, sold caravans and ran a repair business.
However, in April 2024, North Yorkshire Police launched an investigation into fraud involving about 50 victims, and arrested three people, including a 38-year-old man, a 62-year-old woman and a 65-year-old man, who were released under investigation.
The company was made subject to a winding-up order in July 2024, and liquidators were appointed in November 2024. A report from the liquidator revealed that the firm’s debts amounted to £1.28 million.
Now, according to plans submitted to North Yorkshire Council, the firm’s former base on Claro Road could be converted to light industrial use.
Harrogate-based company, Techbuyer, has lodged the proposal to the council as part of plans to move into the premises.
The plan would see the site changed from use as a caravan repairs and sales centre to a light industrial use.
In documents submitted to the council, Techbuyer, which is currently based at Hornbeam Park, said the new site would provide more space for the company’s operations.
It said:
The unit at Claro House will provide space for a small team to carry out disassembly and consolidation processes, as well as providing increased storage space and offering an opportunity for future growth.
North Yorkshire Council will make a decision on the plan at a later date.
North Yorkshire Police said an investigation into the caravan business was still ongoing.
