Harrogate fraudster avoids jail
A Harrogate man has avoided a jail sentence after admitting fraud.
Sean McVeigh, 54, appeared before York Magistrates Court yesterday (September 21) where he pleaded guilty to a charge of fraud by false representation.
According to court documents, McVeigh dishonestly made a false representation on September 17 after requesting for a transfer of £200 into his bank account, intending to make a gain.
Magistrates sentenced the 54-year-old to a 24-week prison sentence, which was suspended for 12 months.
The court suspended the prison sentence as there was a “realistic prospect of rehabilitation”, according to court documents.
The court documents added that a custodial sentence was justified as it was "appalling offending against your mother".
McVeigh, of no fixed abode, was also ordered to pay compensation of £200 and a victims’ surcharge of £154.
