Harrogate Town Council awards £12,500 funding for youth volunteering scheme

Harrogate Town Council has awarded £12,500 to a local charity to help roll out a youth volunteering programme in the town.
The town council has awarded Harrogate and District Community Action the funds as part of a partnership funding scheme.
It will see the Power of 10 youth volunteering project introduced in Harrogate.
The scheme, which is currently in place in Ripon, will work with schools, youth organisations, community groups and voluntary organisations to encourage youth volunteering across the town.
A cheque presentation was held at Harrogate Community House this morning, which included Cllr Viv Poskitt, Mayor of Harrogate and Jo Thackwray, who oversees the project for HADCA.
Zoe Ingham, chair of Ripon Youth Council who spoke at the presentation, said the project helped to get her into volunteering.
She said:
It’s really what started my volunteering. It was an incentive to keep going and because I kept going with it, it has developed into so much more.
Cllr Viv Poskitt, Mayor of Harrogate, said:
It was a delight to meet Zoe this morning and hear more about the transformational effect that volunteering has had for her, having been a lifelong volunteer myself.
The move comes as the town council has previously backed schemes to help introduce more activities for young people in Harrogate, including a support for the establishment of youth clubs.
Last year, town councillors said the clubs could be established in areas of Harrogate with “anti-social behaviour issues” to help provide somewhere for young people to go to.
