A Harrogate amateur dramatic company has announced that its 40th anniversary pantomime will be its last.
Pannal Players performed their first panto, Aladdin, in 1987 and have put on productions in Pannal Village Hall every year since, except for 2021 due to covid.
Over the past four decades, the company has performed traditional pantomimes such as Aladdin and Cinderella, as well as more unusual panto treatments of Toy Story and The Sound of Music, but its forthcoming production of Snow White is to be its last.
Michael Newby, chair of Pannal Players, said:
Although a lot of us have connections to Pannal, very few of us actually live in the village, and with declining audiences and an increased administrative burden we have reluctantly decided to call it a day.
We hope that this will be a special production for us, and for our audiences. We certainly want to go out with a bang rather than a whimper and hope that many of the people who have been involved in the past will come along to support our final production.
Pannal Players have raised thousands of pounds over the years for the Teenage and Young Persons Cancer Ward at St James' Hospital in memory of Joanna Luty, a past member. It is important that we make one last big effort in this our final year.
Snow White will run from Wednesday, February 10 to Saturday 13, 2027 at Pannal Village Hall.
Early bird tickets are now on sale at £6 for the Wednesday and Thursday and £7 for the Friday and Saturday (including the Saturday matinée). These prices will be held until December 31.
Tickets are available here or via the Pannal Panto Facebook page.
