North Yorkshire Police has launched an investigation after a disabled man was verbally abused in Harrogate.

The incident happened on Thursday, July 2, at around 7.30pm between Walworth Avenue and a ginnel that runs towards Knaresborough Road.

Officers said it involved a woman described as being in her late 40s or early 50s with blonde hair, wearing sunglasses and a short-sleeve white top with sand-colour shorts and carrying a shopping bag.

A police statement said:

The victim, who walks with a crutch due to a disability, was approached by the woman who verbally abused him, specifically targeting this disability, causing significant distress.
