The news this week that Harrogate Spring Water is going to lodge an appeal over its expansion plans sparked debate among Stray Ferret subscribers. Below is a range of comments — both for and against — the company’s decision.
I sincerely hope the company succeeds on appeal. Given that it already has outline planning consent, it should do so.
Russell
Harrogate needs to stand together and fight this appeal. It is utterly unacceptable to destroy rotary wood.
Nick Gillett
The democratic process has decided against this development. The vast majority of locals are against it. Name any 'massive benefit' Danone has brought to the town. etc.etc. But, of course, vested interests will mean development will go ahead anyway as it always does in these situations.
Roger
I think if they did a current tree count it would be many more than 500.
Emily Ogden
The following comments were left under an article about plans for a Harrogate car park to be used as a three-year construction compound for the £14.6 million Station Gateway scheme.
The reason for the delay and the watering down of the project are all consequences of the legal challenges. Simple.
Ian Brown
Any responsible council might have taken pause for reflection and abandoned the scheme. But of course that's not possible with a vanity project.
Paul Reynolds
More people oppose than support it. So what mandate has the council got to proceed with it?
Ruth Puddy
Could have been a real asset to the town - missed opportunity - the final scheme seems shabby and how can it possibly take three years?
Roger
