A Conservative candidate in Harrogate for next year's North Yorkshire Council elections has launched a survey on vape shops.
Jonathan Shrago, who has been selected stand in Harrogate Central division on polling day, has set up the survey to find out what residents think about the shops.
The survey follows recent law changes around licensing schemes for vape shops and council powers to limit them in some areas. How North Yorkshire Council will use these powers is still to be decided.
Mr Shrago said:
Vape shops come up time and again when I talk to people in Central Harrogate, yet the reasons for concerns differ. It is important to hear exactly what local people are thinking. This survey – going to every resident in Central Harrogate - will help us take these concerns further.
The results will be submitted to North Yorkshire Council, ensuring residents will have their say before the Council makes it decisions. The stronger the response we get, the better we can inform the council how the people of Central Harrogate feel.
Mr Shrago, who recently contested the Coppice Valley by-election on Harrogate Town Council for the Tories, will stand for the party at the next North Yorkshire Council elections in May 2027.
He came third in the town council by-election in August, which saw the Liberal Democrats retain the seat with 62% of the vote.
