Harrogate Town Council is set to appoint planning consultants at a cost of £50,400 to help draw up a neighbourhood plan.
Neighbourhood plans were introduced by the government in 2011 to give communities a greater say in decisions that affect them, especially planning.
They are often created by towns and villages and help to underpin local planning and development policies for an area.
Now, the town council has advertised a contract for a planning consultant to help draw up the Harrogate Neighbourhood Development Plan.
According to the authority’s website, the plan will help “shape how Harrogate develops in the future by establishing locally informed planning policies and priorities”.
It adds:
Work is already underway, with the draft Policy Intentions Document completed and the project progressing towards public consultation. The appointed consultant will work closely with Harrogate Town Council, the Neighbourhood Plan Group and North Yorkshire Council throughout the remaining stages of the process.
The contract is valued at £50,400 and will cover the period from the consultation stage through to a planned referendum in 2031.
The contract will be advertised until October 23, 2026.
