Three suspected shoplifters were arrested by police at St James Retail Park in Knaresborough yesterday (August 19).

It happened after North Yorkshire Police received a report of a suspected theft at Superdrug in Northallerton yesterday afternoon.

According to a police statement this evening, two women were reported to have filled their bags with cosmetics and left the store without paying.

They were believed to have got into a black Toyota Aygo, which was then driven away by a third person.

The statement added:

Acting on information about the vehicle's movements, officers located it at St James Retail Park in Knaresborough shortly after.

Three women aged 51, 38 and 31, from the north-east, were arrested on suspicion of theft from a shop.

They have all been released on conditional bail while our investigation continues.
