Jaflong in Ripon has won the Best Bangladeshi Restaurant of the Year accolade at the English Curry Awards 2026.

The 15th awards, held in Wolverhampton on Monday (August 10), celebrated the best restaurants, chefs, takeaways and hospitality professionals from England’s curry industry.

Salauddin Khan, who owns the Kirkgate Indian and Bangladeshi restaurant, said:

What an incredible moment! Standing on that stage, holding the award, I was honestly speechless. I didn’t know what to say or how to explain what I was feeling.

My biggest wish at that moment was that my father was still alive so I could share this wonderful news with him. Life doesn’t always give us the people we wish could be there for our biggest moments, but I know he would have been incredibly proud.

This award belongs to all of us. We are so proud of everyone who has been part of the Jaflong journey — our amazing and loyal customers who have become part of the Jaflong family, and our incredible team.

The ceremony, organised by Oceanic Awards, was hosted by TV and radio presenter Tommy Sandhu.

Kiplings in Sowerby Bridge was named Yorkshire Restaurant of the Year. Bombay Spice in York won the outstanding award.

Yasmin Mahmood, chief executive of Oceanic Awards said:

“Celebrating 15 years of the English Curry Awards is a fantastic milestone. The curry industry is built on passion, hard work, family and an incredible commitment to hospitality, and these awards give us the opportunity to recognise the people who make it so special.”
