Run Harrogate 10K start line

Dear Reader, just like there is a cost to organising events like the Harrogate 10k, there is also a cost to providing news. We publish about 100 articles a week all exclusively focused on news, sport and lifestyle in the Harrogate district. Please support independent local journalism by subscribing here. It costs as little as 14p a day.

Almost 800 people have signed up so far to take part in the Run Harrogate 10K on Sunday (June 28).

The event, organised by running club Harrogate Harriers, caters for up to 1,000 entrants so people will be able to sign-up on the morning of the race.

Paticipants set off from Harrogate Sports & Fitness Club at 10am and follow a multi-terrain route, finishing with a tough ascend known as the 'Crimple killer'.

There are water stations at the midway point and at the end.

Participants receive a goody bag that includes sunglasses, a medal, a protein shake and banana and recovery product samples from local business Hempwell.

The race is sponsored again by Knaresborough firm Harmony Energy, whose founder Peter Kavanagh is a keen runner.

A total of 684 people finished last year and although the race attracts some serious runners, many take part just for the experience.

The day begins with a one-mile fun run for children aged two to nine before the 10K gets underway at 10am.

Race director Dan Atkinson said:

Each year we deliver an iconic mixed terrain course, an amazing race village experience and terrific post-race goodies way beyond what competitors might expect, with first-rate support from our enthusiastic and supportive marshals. It’s a brilliant advert for both our town and running club.
