Dear Reader, this article is free to read. We publish about 100 articles a week all exclusively focused on local news. Please support independent local journalism by subscribing here. It costs as little as 14p a day.

A 15-year-old boy had to be rescued from one of the higher points of Brimham Rocks at the weekend.

The boy had climbed to the top of Four O'Clock Rock on Saturday (June 27) and couldn't get down safely, so the police were called, who then requested the help of Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association.

Many of the association's volunteers were busy helping out at the UWFRA Wharfedale 3 Peaks Challenge, but a team was quickly assembled and deployed from Kettlewell to carry out the rescue. Using rock-climbing equipment the boy was helped down to the ground unharmed.

In a post on its Facebook page, the association said:

This incident is a great reminder that, even during our largest fundraising event of the year, we’re always ready to answer the call when we’re needed.

Events like Wharfedale 3 Peaks are about far more than raising money – they help provide the equipment, vehicles, training and resources that enable us to deliver a professional mountain rescue service, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Every donation helps keep us rescue-ready.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported W3P and continues to support the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association. Your generosity enables our volunteers to keep saving lives across the Yorkshire Dales.

UWFRA is entirely staffed by volunteers and covers Wharfedale, Nidderdale, Littondale and Mid-Airedale. It has been rescuing people and animals from the caves, mineshafts, fells and crags for more than 70 years.
