The trust which operates Harrogate and Ripon hospitals paid £1.3 million to acquire a GP surgery in Ripon.

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust took over North House Surgery in the city in April 2025.

The surgery on North Street in Ripon has 9,000 registered patients and employs 40 staff.

At the time, the trust said it had taken over the practice after being approached by the GP partners and the Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board in late 2024.

The Stray Ferret can now reveal that the hospital trust paid £1.3 million to acquire the building from the practice partners.

A trust spokesperson said:

The agreed price reflected an independent professional valuation and enabled Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust to take on the surgery's primary care contract, maintaining services for patients.

The contract to provide primary care service at the surgery was transferred by Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board to Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust on April 1, 2025.

The trust said in a statement that the practice’s leadership structure would remain in place. It includes Dr Peter Johnson, one of the surgery’s GP partners, who became lead doctor at the practice.

At the time, Dr Jacqueline Andrews, executive medical director at the trust, said:

We are really excited to begin an exciting new chapter at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust - incorporating primary care into our range of services.

The NHS’ focus is to move care, where it is appropriate, from an acute hospital setting to the community, and from treatment to prevention. Closer working between acute, community and primary care will ensure outstanding care can continue to be provided for our patients across Ripon.
