Drivers in Ripon are set for delays as three months of gasworks start in the city.

Northern Gas Networks is carrying out work in the city centre, which is expected to last from today (August 24) until the end of November.

The work will see the company replace ageing metal pipework with new, more durable plastic pipes.

Low St Agnesgate will be closed from August 24 between the junctions of High St Agnesgate and Minster Road until Monday, September 14.

From Monday, September 7, temporary traffic lights will be in place on the road until Friday, September 18.

Also from Monday, September 7, there will be a road closure on St Mary’s Gate, which will move north from Residence Lane to the junction with Allhallowgate and Priest Lane as the work continues. This closure will be in place until around the end of October. Access to St Marygate Car Park will be maintained at all times.

Meanwhile, from Monday, October 5, temporary traffic lights will be in place at the junction of Allhallowgate and Priest Lane, until around Friday, October 23.

From Monday, October 19, one lane of Stonebridgegate will be closed, and temporary traffic lights will be in place until the end of the project.

Mark Mawhood, operations manager at Northern Gas Networks, said:

We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. However, it’s vital we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Ripon.
