The company that ran events at Goldsborough Hall, near Knaresborough, has gone into voluntary liquidation owing more than £2 million, documents show.
B18 Ltd owes money to a variety of creditors, including HMRC, banks, and private businesses, according to a statement of affairs published online by Companies House. B18's directors were Goldsborough Hall’s owners, Mark and Clare Oglesby.
However, Goldsborough Hall is continuing to trade and all bookings and commitments will be honoured.
The joint liquidators of B18, Julian Pitts and Richard Kenworthy of BTG, were appointed on April 28.
In a statement they said:
B18 Limited operated as the events company for the historic hospitality venue Goldsborough Hall, near Knaresborough. Due to financial difficulties, the directors took the decision to place the company into creditors’ voluntary liquidation in order to formally wind up the business.
Mr Pitts added:
We want to reassure the public, clients and suppliers that the historic estate at Goldsborough Hall is unaffected by this process.
All existing bookings remain secure, and scheduled events are expected to proceed as planned.
Mr Pitts and Mr Kenworthy added that the liquidation relates solely to B18 Limited and does not affect the continued operation of Goldsborough Hall.
According to the statement of affairs, the largest amount owed – over half a million pounds – is to the taxman. B18 owes HMRC £200,388 in PAYE and £370,175 in VAT. It also owes nearly £2,380 in corporation tax.
The next largest creditor is Mr Oglesby himself – the company owes more than £490,000 for a director’s loan from him.
The company also owes £25,000 to Santander Bank and more than £23,000 to Lloyds Bank for a covid Bounce Back Loan and a business charge card.
Further down the scale, private companies including Cathedral Hygiene, Grenke Leasing, Commerce Business Systems, and builders’ merchant Travis Perkins are all owed smaller amounts.
Creditors affected by the liquidation can contact the joint liquidators at BTG to make a claim by contacting Richard Kenworthy or Benjamin Silverwood on 0113 244 0044.
