Harrogate district to get 5.30am bin collections due to heatwave
Bin collections will start at 5.30am tomorrow and Friday in the Harrogate district due to the heatwave.
North Yorkshire Council starts waste and recycling collections at 6am usually.
But the timing has been brought forward to help bin workers while a Met Office amber weather warning is in place.
Residents who have signed up to text alerts regarding their refuse collections have been sent a notification to inform them of the change to the schedule.
The scheduling change will affect 42,543 properties in the Harrogate district.
A council statement shared by Arnold Warneken, the Green Party councillor for Ouseburn, said:
Officers can walk up to 30,000 steps a day collecting waste containers, and while we provide them with appropriate PPE, and bottles of water, this decision was made to help shorten the time they’re outside in the heat.
The Met Office predicts temperatures in the Harrogate district will reach highs of 28 degrees on Thursday before rising to 32 degrees on Friday.
