Stockwell Road Surgery, Knaresborough.

Health inspectors have rated a Knaresborough GP surgery “outstanding” after an inspection.

The Care Quality Commission, which regulates health and social care in England, assessed Stockwell Road Surgery in May this year.

In a report published this week, inspectors rated the surgery as 'outstanding' overall and 'oustanding' in three specific areas — being caring, responsive and well-led.

Inspectors said the practice was 'good' in two categories — safe and effective.

The report said:

The surgery had a clear vision and strategy, which considered the needs of the people who used their service and the wider community. Staff understood their individual roles and responsibilities. Leaders accounted for the actions, behaviours and performance of staff through clear and effective governance processes.

Inspectors also found that staff kept facilities clean and maintained equipment to ensure people were kept safe.

Staff supported people to live healthier lives and monitored their care and treatment to ensure they received positive and consistent outcomes, the report added.

Stockwell surgery provides health services to 8,766 people under a contract held with NHS England.

Linda Hirst, CQC deputy director of primary care and community services in the north, said Stockwell Road was an "example of what outstanding care looks like".

Ms Hirst added:

The hard work of the staff at these services is making a real difference to people’s lives and this is why we have re-rated these services as outstanding. Other GP practices should look at this report and see if there’s anything they can learn from.
