The Old Deanery in Ripon

The Old Deanery in Ripon is to close its fine dining restaurant after almost two-and-a-half years.

The restaurant, under head chef Adam Jackson, earned an entry in the prestigious Michelin Guide, which praised its creative and eye-catching dishes.

But Rebecca Layton, who owns the business, posted on social media on Friday (July 3) that fine dining will cease on July 31.

Ms Layton added:

We will continue to offer overnight stays and host our lovely weddings and events — with weddings and events being where we started when we first took over the venue in 2021.

It has been an incredible few years, but the time has come to go back to our roots and focus on different areas of the business. Thank you to all our guests, past, present and future - what an amazing ride it has been.

Tables are still available between now and July 31. Booked weddings and events will still go ahead as arranged.

She added deposits would be refunded for anyone who has made dinner reservations from August 1.

People reacted with sadness to the news. One said Mr Jackson and the team had created “amazing, inspiring and memorable culinary dishes” while another posted: “Your Sunday lunches are truly delicious. And the tasting menu a real treat - up there with the very best in Yorkshire.”

The Old Deanery, a 17th century Jacobean mansion, is situated opposite Ripon Cathedral. Besides being included in the Michelin Guide, it has been awarded 3 AA Rosette-status, which only 10% of venues achieve.
