Friends and family of a Pateley Bridge teenager who was killed in a hit-and-run collision have raised money for a local bereavement support service.
Bailey Chadwick, 19, died after he was struck by a vehicle on the B6265 Lupton Bank between Pateley Bridge and Glasshouses when he was walking home in the early hours of July 20.
The driver fled the scene and nobody has since been charged.
But members of Bailey’s community have raised more than £6,000 for Just ‘B’ – a bereavement support service, which is part of Harrogate charity St Michael’s Hospice – after his loved ones used the service in the wake of his death.
The charity today (December 9) said a fundraising event held in Bailey’s memory took place on November 1 to raise money for Just ‘B’.
The event included an auction and a raffle, which raised a total of £6,752 for the service.
Dayle Knights, Bailey’s mum, said:
I am overwhelmed with all the support from my friends and community. Thank you all.
Bailey’s friend Tegan Duncan said there is a “deep pain in not knowing" what truly happened on that fateful night, adding:
... no explanations, no closure. Just a bright life cut short and a community left in the middle of all this uncertainty. We are continuing to stay hopeful for answers.
We are not letting this story fade into the background, we are not letting Bailey’s name be forgotten and we are not giving up – not on justice, not on each other, not on the future.
Because keeping Bailey’s name alive reminds the world that love endures, truth matters and silence won’t have the final word. #BecauseofBailey.

The impact of Bailey's death was palpable when the Stray Ferret visited Pateley Bridge in the days following, and his mother and stepfather issued an emotional appeal at a police press conference on July 23, urging the driver to “do the right thing” and come forward.
But little information on the case has been released since that fateful day.
On July 24, North Yorkshire Police officers arrested a 24-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The man, who has not been identified, was released on bail on July 26 and banned from entering North Yorkshire.
Just three days later, police made a second arrest in connection with the case.
A woman in her 20s was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice, but was released under investigation on July 31.
On August 5, police released CCTV images of two cars officers were trying to trace.
The force said at the time there was “no indication that the two vehicles have been involved in the collision” but believed the drivers may have “seen something of relevance” on the night of Bailey's death.
The drivers were located the following day and police said they were helping with the investigation.
However, since then, there have been no updates.
North Yorkshire Police urged the public not to speculate on the incident, warning that to do so "may prejudice any potential future court proceedings”.
