Yorkshire Water has told people in rural parts of the Harrogate district that it’s safe to resume using tap water as normal.
The company lifted its ‘do not drink’ and ‘boil water’ advice after three weeks today (November 2) — but has not said what the outcome of its investigations are.
‘Boil water’ advice was first issued on October 10 when coliforms were detected. Coliforms are bacteria that do not pose a direct safety risk but can indicate a potential issue if not addressed. Properties in the postcodes HG3 2R, HG3 2Q, HG3 2J, and HG3 2L were affected.
Darley was particularly badly hit.
‘Do not drink’ advice was subsequently issued to some homes and was still active for 34 properties until this morning. The advice applied to pets as well as humans.
Yorkshire Water chief executive Nicola Shaw personally intervened last week by ordering more bottled water to be sent to Darley.
Today’s Yorkshire Water statement said:
We can confirm that we are now able to lift the ‘boil water’ and do ‘not drink instructions’ at affected properties in the HG3 2 area as the water is now back to our usual high standards. Customers can now use their tap water as normal.
We’d like to apologise to everybody impacted and thank them for their understanding and patience throughout. Customers impacted will be receiving hand delivered notices today confirming the information.
