Man arrested after shooting
This article has been amended after South Yorkshire Police told us "our initial release was inaccurate and Boswell was arrested on the A19 Shipton Road near York". The constabulary initially said the arrest took place in Harrogate, which our earlier version of the article reported.
A man has been arrested near York following a shooting.
Police were called to reports of gunshots being fired on Smithies Lane in Barnsley on Saturday (August 29).
According to South Yorkshire Police, a man was threatened but no one was injured.
Elijah Boswell, 39, of Smithies Lane, was subsequently arrested on the A19 Shipton Road near York.
Mr Boswell was charged with possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and appeared at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court yesterday (September 2).
He was remanded in custody ahead of another hearing at Sheffield Crown Court today.
Detective inspector Joanne Chambers said:
When a gun is fired the consequences can be devastating. Thankfully no one was injured as a result of this incident, but next time this might not be the case.
Our communities should not be put at risk because of the reckless actions of those willing to pull a trigger and place innocent lives in potential danger.
