Raworths is proud to support the Stray Ferret Christmas Appeal 2025 for the fantastic work of Henshaws. All money raised goes directly to this charity.
Christmas is a wonderful time at Henshaws Arts and Crafts Centre, but every day of the year is special for the people who go there.
The centre, based in Knaresborough, offers local adults with sight loss and other disabilities the chance to discover the joy and magic of creativity.
The positive impact of arts and crafts extends way beyond the skills learnt. It enhances wellbeing through self-expression, independence and social connection.
That’s why, this festive season, we are asking you, our readers, to help us support the centre in its plans to expand its services.
We are aiming to raise £5,000 towards two new art studios, bringing the gift of creativity to more people in need.
Please donate whatever you can to this amazing place within our community to help people like Hannah, who has found joy, support and confidence at the centre.
Hannah has been part of the Henshaws family for over ten years, having first joined the charity’s specialist college in Harrogate, before moving to the arts and crafts centre.
In her time at the centre, Hannah has tried a range of workshops, bringing her enthusiasm to them all. Her mum, Sue, said the staff have been equally enthusiastic and the centre has helped Hannah become more independent and outgoing.
She said the centre is such a wonderful place for all abilities, with something for everybody to enjoy. She added:
Hannah goes in on a morning with a smile on her face and comes out on a night time, again with a smile on her face.

Hannah and Sue.
For Hannah, Henshaws offers a sense of belonging and the chance to be herself. She said:
There’s nowhere else like this on this earth. When I step in all my cares and worries are left outside and I can just bring my happy excited self.
It’s the safest place to come because everybody’s so nice and gets on really well, we are one big happy family.
Please support us in helping Henshaws expand the arts and crafts opportunities it offers to vision impaired and disabled people. We are aiming to raise £5,000 which will go directly to two new creative workshops, thanks to the generous sponsorship of our appeal by Raworths Solicitors in Harrogate.
