Knaresborough Golf Club has elected its first ever woman president in its 105-year history.
Pat Johnstone, who has served on various committees within the ladies section at the club for 28 years and became its captain in 1998, was elected to the position at the annual general meeting.
Pat has been a member of the club for nearly 50 years, joining when her late husband Keith became the club professional.
She was active in raising funds for the club’s centenary in 2020 and has been part of the team of women maintaining the small garden around the clubhouse. Her daughter Julie this year won the ladies' championship for the 13th time.
Speaking after her election, she said:
The golf club is my second home. It will be the highest honour to serve as the first lady president of Knaresborough Golf Club.
Stewart Taylor, Knaresborough's management committee chairman, said:
Pat will be a very effective ambassador for Knaresborough Golf Club and her wealth of experience will be invaluable during her term as president.
I am looking forward to working alongside her and I have no doubt that she will offer an extremely positive contribution to the management committee.
