Eleven new coronavirus cases in Harrogate district

The district has recorded 11 new covid cases in the past 24 hours according to data from the NHS. 7,518 people in the district have tested positive for the virus since the beginning of the pandemic a year ago.

This Tuesday marks the first year anniversary since the start of the first lockdown on March 23 2020 and many will mark a National Day of Reflection, remembering those who have died.

The total number of patients who have died at Harrogate District Hospital after testing positive for covid stands at 177. There have been no new recorded deaths of the illness in the district today.

The 7 day average of cases per 100,000 in the Harrogate district is now 45.4 (latest figures dated March 18) which is above the North Yorkshire average of 45.1. The highest 7 day rate in the county is Selby at 70.6. The England average is 56.

It was revealed this week that Harrogate’s coronavirus testing centre is to be moved from the Dragon Road car park to a new location “within the next few months”.

This is because the car park is used by Harrogate Convention Centre which is planning to reopen in June.

 

Twelve new covid cases confirmed in Harrogate district

A further 12 people have tested positive for coronavirus in the Harrogate district in today’s data from the Office for National Statistics.

It brings the total number of confirmed cases in the district to 7,366 since the pandemic began last year.

Meanwhile, the seven-day infection rate for the district remains at 59.7 cases per 100,000 people, having dropped this week to the lowest it has been since September.

It is above the average for North Yorkshire, which is 47.2. Only Richmondshire has a higher rate, at 63.3, with all other districts in the county having a lower rate.

At Harrogate District Hospital, no further deaths have been reported in patients who tested positive for coronavirus. The total number of people who have died at the hospital since the beginning of the pandemic remains 165.

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust confirmed this week it had 42 in-patients who had tested positive for covid, a drop of three from the previous week. It had discharged 20 patients in the same time period, bringing the total number treated and discharged to 554.

The number of vaccinations administered in the district has risen this week to almost 60,000, according to data from the NHS. Across the UK, people aged 56 and above are now being invited to book appointments for the first dose of their vaccines.

No coronavirus cases in Harrogate central in past seven days

No cases of coronavirus have been reported in Harrogate central in the past seven days.

According the North Yorkshire County Council statistics, zero infections have been reported in the area, which has 9,775 people.

There also haven’t been any infections in Knaresborough South and Follifoot or Menwith, Beckwithshaw and Denton Moor in the past week.

Killinghall and Hampsthwaite remains the most badly affected area, with 16 infections.

It comes as a further 17 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in the Harrogate district, according to today’s Public Health England figures.

It takes the total number of cases since March to 7,312.

Meanwhile, Harrogate District Hospital has reported another death from a patient who tested positive for covid.

The death was recorded on Sunday, according to NHS England figures. It takes the death toll at the hospital to 161.

The district’s seven-day covid rate now stands at 74 people per 100,000.

The North Yorkshire average is 62, while the national rate is 91.

A further 32 people in the Harrogate district test positive for covid

A further 32 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in the Harrogate district, according to today’s Public Health England figures.

It takes the number of cases since the start of the pandemic up to 6,353. .

There were no recorded deaths of patients who tested positive for coronavirus at Harrogate District Hospital.- the total number since March 2020 stands at 122.

Meanwhile, the seven-day covid rate in the district (latest data up to January 21st) has fallen to 261.8 cases per 100,000 people.

That’s higher than the county-wide rate which is 235.4 and lower than the national average which is 400.6.

Bettys to close shops and takeaways ‘until further notice’

Bettys is to close all six of its branches at 5pm tonight because of concerns about the rising number of covid infections.

The closure will also affect its order and collect service as well as takeaways and will be in force until further notice.

Bettys online shop will remain open.

The cafe’s tea rooms were forced to close at the beginning of the third lockdown but management today announced the new measures.

Simon Eyles, Bettys managing director, said:

“Given the severity of the coronavirus pandemic that we are currently witnessing, Bettys has decided to close its Yorkshire branches completely. This means our café tea rooms and now our shops too will be shut until further notice.

“For us all at Bettys, our colleagues, customers and communities are our main priority. We will continue to do what we feel is right to keep people safe and to shoulder our social responsibility as a business.”

Covid cases rise by seventy five in Harrogate district

Seventy five more people have tested positive for coronavirus according to figures published today by Public Health England. There have been no further deaths of covid at Harrogate district hospital.

The total number of cases since the pandemic began now stands at 2,910.

On Thursday, the district reported its record daily case increase with 96 positive tests confirmed.

Health bosses said this week that 24 patients were being treated for coronavirus at Harrogate district hospital and that it is coping with the increased number of patients.

Meanwhile, care home visits will continue in North Yorkshire. The county council restricted visits during October but advised homes they could relax the rules in November to allow one designated visitor for each resident.

Officials have said the measure will continue through lockdown, but homes which report an outbreak will have to restrict visits.
