In his introduction at the review meeting, Richard Compton, chair of the BID board, said:
North Yorkshire Police has released a CCTV image of a man they wish to speak to regarding a Harrogate shop theft.
The incident happened on March 17 at approximately 6pm at the One Stop Shop on Knaresborough Road.
Officers said around £140 worth of goods were stolen, including coffee and body sprays.
The force added:
“Please contact us if you recognise the man on CCTV, as he may have information that will assist our investigation.”

Couple hand themselves in following Harrogate shop theft
A couple have handed themselves into the police following a CCTV appeal issued on Monday (April 15).
North Yorkshire Police released a set of CCTV images at the time to appeal for information following a theft at TK Maxx, in Harrogate‘s Victoria Shopping Centre, on February 25.
Police said on Monday “a woman and a man bagged various of items including sandals, trainers and T-shirts, leaving the store without making payment.
However, the force today (April 17) issued an updated statement, which said a local couple in their 50s “saw the appeal and came forward to the police to admit the theft”.
It added:
“With agreement from the store manager, a Community Resolution Disposal was applied which involved the couple paying for the goods valued over £100 within 24 hours.”

CCTV appeal after Harrogate M&S theft
North Yorkshire Police has issued a CCTV image of a woman it wants to speak to following a theft in Harrogate.
The incident happened at M&S Simply Food at Beech Avenue, at about 2pm on Friday, February 23.
According to a police statement today (Monday, April 15), a woman stole large amounts of alcohol in her bag.
The statement said:
“Please contact us if you recognise the women pictured on CCTV, as she may have information that will assist our investigation.”
Police would like to speak to the woman in the picture.

Bid to trace shopper knocked over by Harrogate M&S thief
North Yorkshire Police is appealing for witnesses after a shopper was knocked over by a thief at a Harrogate Marks and Spencer.
The shop theft occurred at M&S Oatlands, on Beech Avenue Business Park, at approximately 12.20pm on Friday February 23.
Whilst making their escape, a suspect knocked an innocent member of the public to the ground as he ran out of the door. Staff helped the customer who then carried on doing his shopping.
North Yorkshire Police said:
“We would like to speak with the man who was knocked to the ground and other members of the public who kindly assisted him.”

Business group plans to bring banking hub to Ripon
The introduction of a banking hub was among plans unveiled by Ripon Business Improvement District at its annual review meeting this week.
Sine the BID launched in autumn 2021, banking facilities in the city have reduced with the closure of the Barclays and Halifax branches, leaving HSBC as the only high street bank with a presence in Ripon.
A banking hub would provide a counter service where customers of major banks and building societies can carry out cash transactions. One is set to open in Knaresborough after it lost its last high street bank.
BID manager Lilla Bathurst told Monday’s meeting at the Old Deanery:
“We are seeking to bring a banking hub to Ripon to enable businesses to access and deposit cash more readily than they can at the moment.”
The HSBC Bank on Westgate.
The BID, funded through a £170,000 annual levy raised from businesses in Ripon and the surrounding area, is also looking to support the fight against crime.
Ms Bathurst said:
“We plan to invest in a Radiolink scheme for businesses to reduce shop theft and antisocial behaviour, by having a means of sharing information with each other about suspicious characters or perceived threats that they see.
“We will also ensure that all night-time economy businesses are offered this.”
The review meeting marked the BID’s second year of operation.
Ms Bathurst said the highlights included a reinvigorated events calendar featuring live music, street parties run as part of the Totally Locally campaign instigated by independent traders in Kirkgate and support for the Ripon Theatre Festival in June, which saw an 86 percent increase in audience numbers.
The BID supported the festival in its inaugural year of 2022 and this year and will again be a sponsor in 2024.
Other BID activities in the year included the installation of new boundary signs and the creation of walking maps that encourage visitor flow around the city and work in conjunction with refurbished noticeboards that contain mapping, tourist and regularly updated events information.
“Our vision is to develop the unique Ripon city region as a great destination for tourism, culture, creativity, innovation and business.
“We are helping to drive footfall into our retailers, restaurants, bars, museums and attractions – both in the city centre and the outer areas – through our online presence, events and marketing.”
He added:
“Everything we do is focused on growing the profits of our members.”

Harrogate police were able to respond swiftly to a shop theft this afternoon after an officer walked into the shop soon after it happened.
The Harrogate police officer happened to be heading into the M&S BP garage in Pannal this afternoon for a coffee when the shop worker told him three men had just driven away with stolen food and drink.
Officers were able to quickly apprehend the three men in a van on Park House Green.
The three men were dealt with using the community resolution disposal procedure which is used for low-level crime such as minor theft and criminal damage.
A release by North Yorkshire Police explained the method:
“By encouraging suspects to face up to the impact of their behaviour and to take responsibility for making good any harm caused, a Community Resolution can reduce the likelihood of their reoffending. There must be an acceptance of responsibility on behalf of the suspect to undertake a Community Resolution response.”
The suspect’s van was also seized for being un-taxed.
The three men will now have to pay for the items stolen, which added up to around £30.
