Matt Turton has joined the historic 18th century Wild Swan inn at Minskip, near Boroughbridge.
Mr Turton has worked at a variety of venues in Harrogate and with celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay when he opened his Heddon Street restaurant in Soho.
Alex Bond, who along with Stephen Lennox bought the Wild Swan in 2021, said:
“Matt’s appointment is crucially important for the future of the Wild Swan. He has a superb reputation in Harrogate and the surrounding area and we are in no doubt that he will take the Wild Swan to a completely new level in terms of the quality and the presentation of our food.”
Mr Turton has had stints at the Fat Badger and the Yorkshire Hotel and as head chef at Jesper’s Bar and Kitchen in Harrogate, as well as working on the set of ITV soap Emmerdale.
He said:
“I have had such a wonderful welcome from the village. I am determined to give Minskip and the surrounding district, an inn to be proud of.
“I have completely revamped the menu and am determined to create enjoyable and imaginative food at competitive prices.”
Charity football tournament
Pantera Property in Harrogate raised more than £5,000 for charity by holding a charity football tournament.
The money will be split and donated to Saint Michaels Hospice in Harrogate and The Leeds Hospital Charity’s fund to create The Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease Centre.
Established in 2016, Pantera Property is a family-run firm of chartered surveyors, with offices in London, Harrogate, Leeds and Essex.

Harrogate district pub unveils new-look beer garden
The Wild Swan at Minskip, near Boroughbridge, has unveiled a new-look beer garden.
The garden, situated in a secluded area at the back, can cater for up to 36 drinkers and diners, on top of the 60 covers in the main premises.
Alex Bond, who co-owns the Wild Swan with business partner Stephen Lennox, said:
“We have always had tables outside, but our new look beer garden provides a much richer and more attractive eating and drinking experience.
“It is the picture-perfect suntrap, set between the rear of the historic inn and a characterful disused mill. It will be ideal for the coming summer months.”

The inn, which is close to Junction 48 of the A1(M), has also appointed a new head chef, Jason Bishop, who replaces Paul Murphy.
Mr Lennox said:
“Jason is a wonderfully talented chef who has worked in some of the finest establishments across Yorkshire. He has been on our radar for the last 18 months and the opportunity to make this partnership happen heading into a busy summer is one we couldn’t pass up.”
Wood-fired pizzas will be returning to the inn on Wednesdays Fridays and Saturdays each week and a new summer menu will be introduced shortly.

Ex-Timble Inn chef moves to Wild Swan at Minskip
The owners of the Wild Swan, the 19th century inn at Minskip, near Boroughbridge, have hired Paul Murphy as chef.
Alex Bond and Stephen Lennox, who bought the Wild Swan last year, heralded Mr Murphy’s arrival as the start of a new era for the inn.
Mr Murphy previously built up the Timble Inn near Otley into a five-star hotel and worked with chef Frances Atkins at the Michelin-starred Yorke Arms near Pateley Bridge.

Mr Bond said:
“Paul’s appointment is crucially important for the future of the Wild Swan.
“He has a superb reputation and we are in no doubt that he will take the Wild Swan to a completely new level in terms of the quality and the presentation of our food.
“We are looking to establish the Wild Swan’s reputation for excellent food and drink in relaxed and informal surroundings, making it a destination location for food lovers across the county.”

Mr Murphy said he was “determined to give Minskip and the surrounding district an inn to be proud of”, adding:
“I have completely revamped the menu and am determined to create enjoyable and imaginative food at competitive prices. I haven’t been here long, but the reaction so far has been brilliant.
“I am aiming to replicate the success I had at the Timble Inn, which my wife and I ran from 2009 to 2014. Like the Timble, the Wild Swan has immense potential.
“This is a fabulous opportunity. Alex and Stephen have given us a blank canvas. They simply wants the Wild Swan to be at the heart of the Minskip community and to be loved and treasured by villagers.”
The owners said this year they intended to create a microbrewery at the inn but a spokesman for the venue said those plans were currently on hold.
