Boy, 17, electronically tagged after Harrogate crime spree

A teenager has been sentenced to an electronically monitored curfew for breaching a court order issued after committing a string of offences in Harrogate.

The 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Harrogate Youth Court on March 3 after failing to comply with an order issued in August last year.

The court made the order after the teenager was charged with numerous offences in Harrogate.

These included carrying a knife and assault on Forest Lane, stealing £56 worth of watches from TK Maxx in Victoria Shopping Centre and stealing a bike from Swarcliffe Road in August 2022.

He also faced charges on theft of a Berghaus hoodie from Blacks on Station Parade, assault on Hookstone Drive and knowingly being carried on a stolen Piaggio Zip scooter in Harrogate on December 3, 2022.

The 17-year-old was also charged with stealing mountain bikes from St Aidan’s Church of England High School in October last year.

As a result of the offences, the court imposed a new youth rehabilitation order on the teenager.

It requires him to abide by a curfew at his home address in Skipton for two months, which will be electronically monitored.

He was also ordered not to enter St Aidan’s for three months.

Harrogate girl, 14, to be electronically tagged after latest assault

A 14-year-old Harrogate girl is to be electronically monitored after being found guilty of another assault.

The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to beating a female when she appeared before North Yorkshire Youth Court in Harrogate on Friday.

She was given a three-month curfew to stay at a named address between 8pm and 7am daily until May 16. The court ruled the curfew was to be electronically monitored.

Magistrates also ordered her not to contact two named individuals and to avoid a particular street, as well as given a £100 fine.

The youth rehabilitation order replaced a previous order issued by magistrates to the same girl on January 27 this year for four counts of assault, one of which was on a police officer, and two counts of arson.

The arson attacks involved setting fire to commercial-sized bins belonging to Primark on Oxford Street in Harrogate and Harrogate Borough Council on Oxford Place in Harrogate on May 23 and May 26 last year respectively.

Boy, 13, charged with stealing scooter in Harrogate

A 13-year-old boy has been charged with stealing a scooter from Hornbeam Park in Harrogate.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Harrogate Magistrates Court on Friday.

He was accused of stealing a Piaggio Zip from the Premier Inn on Hornbeam Park Avenue on December 3 last year.

The teenager was also charged with failing to stop at Park Drive when required to do so by an officer, driving without a licence and without insurance.

The 13-year-old was bailed by magistrates until February 3 for the case to be reviewed by the prosecution.

Teen denies stealing bikes from Harrogate school

A teenager is set to stand trial after being charged with stealing multiple bikes in Harrogate, including from St Aidan’s Church of England High School.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before youth court held at Harrogate Magistrates Court on Friday on a string of charges.

He denied stealing two bikes from a secure bicycle unit at St Aidan’s on Oatlands Drive on October 8.

He also pleaded not guilty to stealing a bike from The Matrix on Hornbeam Park on October 4 and another bike from Harrogate Sports and Fitness Centre on October 16.

The teenager denied a charge that he dishonestly undertook or assisted in the retention, removal, disposal or realisation of stolen goods in relation to the bike stolen from The Matrix.

A trial date for the charges was set for January 19, 2023.

Meanwhile, the teenager also denied using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards another boy in McDonalds, Boroughbridge Road, in York on November 3.

He is set to stand trial on January 30, 2023, in relation to the charge.

However, the teenager admitted to failing to comply with a youth rehabilitation order imposed by the court on September 5 in relation to a separate charge.

The teenager had failed to attend statutory appointments, returned home late for curfew twice and on two occasions failed to connect a GPS enabled device to electricity supply as required by the court.

The court adjourned the matter until December 9 for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.

Harrogate boy, 15, sentenced for stealing car and carrying knife

A 15-year-old Harrogate boy has been referred to a youth offender panel for 12 months for stealing a car and carrying a knife and bolt cutters.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was also ordered to pay a £22 surcharge to fund victim services.

Magistrates in Harrogate imposed the sentence on Friday after the teenager pleaded guilty to three offences, which all took place on January 20 this year.

The first was stealing a car of unknown value on John Street, Harrogate.

The second was having a kitchen knife on West Park Stray on January 20 and the third was for going equipped to steal with bolt cutters at the same location.

The court took into account the boy’s guilty pleas when imposing the sentence.

Teen pleads guilty to Stray robbery and possessing zombie knife

A 17-year-old male has admitted robbing a male on the Stray and possessing a zombie knife in Harrogate.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with stealing a mobile phone, cash and credit cards during the robbery.

It took place on the Stray at Knaresborough Road on July 23.

He also admitted possessing a zombie knife the following day on The Ginnel in Harrogate.

The youth denied assaulting a police officer on The Ginnel on July 24 and the charge was dismissed. But he admitted resisting arrest by the same officer that day.

The teenager, from Sheffield, was remanded into the care of the local authority until August 19, when he is due to appear in front of Harrogate magistrates again.

He was given a doorstep curfew between 7pm and 7am, told to attend three appointments a week with the Youth Justice Service and not to enter Harrogate before the court appearance.

Girls aged 13 and 14 admit setting fire to bins in Harrogate

Two girls aged 13 and 14 have admitted setting commercial bins on fire in Harrogate town centre.

The girls, who are both from Harrogate, cannot be named for legal reasons.

They pleaded guilty to arson on a Biffa bin worth £600 belonging to Primark on Oxford Place on May 23.

They also admitted the same charge relating to a bin worth £600 belonging to Harrogate Borough Council on May 26.

The 13-year-old is the same girl who admitted in June being drunk in Ripon and attacking three police officers.

They appeared before North Yorkshire Youth Court in Harrogate on Friday, where they were referred to a youth offender panel for 12 months.

They were also ordered to pay £50 compensation.

The older girl also pleaded guilty to separate charges of causing actual bodily harm on June 19 and assaulting a police officer three days later.

She was ordered to pay £200 compensation plus £85 court costs and a £26 surcharge to fund victim services.

Gang of girls admits causing actual bodily harm in Harrogate

Four teenage girls have pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm to a female in Harrogate.

The girls, who cannot be named for legal reasons, are between 14 and 17 years old.

They admitted jointly assaulting the victim on August 15 last year in Belmont Park, Starbeck.

Three of the girls are from Harrogate; another is from Blackpool.

They pleaded guilty when the cases were heard at North Yorkshire Youth Court, sitting in Harrogate, on Friday.

The girls were ordered to £200 compensation each and referred to youth offender panels for 12 months.

Harrogate boy, 15, admits stealing car and carrying knife on Stray

A 15-year-old boy from Harrogate has pleaded guilty to stealing a car and carrying a knife on the Stray.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, also admitted carrying bolt cutters on the Stray in connection with the theft of a car.

All three offences took place on January 20 this year.

The boy was charged with stealing the car from John Street in Harrogate. 

He also admitted being in breach of a conditional discharge order which was imposed for a criminal damage offence in August 2021.

He appeared before North Yorkshire Youth Court, which was held at Harrogate Justice Centre, on Friday to enter his plea.

The court remanded the teenager on conditional bail until July 19 for sentencing.
