Man who carried out £1,500 theft from Harrogate and Knaresborough TK Maxxs avoids jail
A man who stole more than £1,500 worth of clothing from TK Maxx stores in Harrogate and Knaresborough has been spared jail.
Adrian-Samir Marin, 33, appeared before Harrogate Magistrates Court on Thursday (July 2) where he spoke to confirm his name, date of birth and address.
Marin, who pleaded guilty to two counts of theft at a previous hearing, appeared in court for sentencing.
Sarah Tyrer, prosecuting, told the court that Marin had entered the TK Maxx store on St James Retail Park in Knaresborough with another man — who has been identified but yet to be arrested — on March 23 this year.
Ms Tyrer said the pair went to the men’s section and started to browse items before grouping clothes together on the rails.
The two men picked out £824.85 worth of Hugo Boss clothing in the store.
She said:
They grouped them together on rails before Marin grabbed a shopping basket and held them [the clothes] up against his body. The other male would then conceal the clothes from the basket before they left without paying.
Marin, of Dean Crescent, Warrington, then got into a Volkswagen car before driving away from the store, the court heard.

Ms Tyrer said at 4.29pm the same day, Marin and the other male then entered the TK Maxx store in Harrogate’s Victoria Shopping Centre.
The prosecutor said:
They repeated what had taken place in Knaresborough.
In total, Marin and the male stole 17 items totalling £684.83.
The defendant was later identified by police and was arrested. He gave no comment answers in police interview, the court was told.
The court heard that Marin had no previous convictions and was of previous good character.
Sean Wilson, defending, said the 33-year-old had pleaded guilty to both offences and “loses his good name today”.
Mr Wilson said Marin, who works as an UberEats driver, knew the other male from Romania. The man knew that Marin was “struggling for money”, he added.
The defence said:
He [the male] offered Marin £100 to become involved [in shoplifting]. It is going to cost him a lot more than that today.
Mr Wilson added that Marin was at “low risk” of reoffending and was of “low risk” to the public.
Magistrates sentenced Marin to a 12-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months.
He was also ordered to carry out 160 hours of unpaid work and pay £754 in compensation to TK Maxx.
