Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, both legendary Kora players, Jali Bakary Konteh infuses traditional songs with his own distinct touch, weaving innovative melodic and rhythmic arrangements. The kora, a traditional West African stringed instrument, is played by plucking with the fingers and can be compared to a lute or harp.

A highly versatile musician, Konteh performs both as a solo artist and with his band, Minyanta, as well as with the Balimaya Project – an exciting 16-piece collective blending West African folkloric music with jazz. In his solo afternoon concert, Bakary Konteh will be performing a variety of traditional kora pieces, showcasing the distinctive rhythmic patterns and melodic beauty the kora creates.

A selection of traditional kora pieces including Jaraby, Allah L’a Ke, Bading Bung, Foroya, Kelefa, Mali Sayo, Sayaa and Jato.
