There's never a dull moment for the Stray Ferret's lifestyle team, covering the stories, events and interests of individuals and businesses across the region.
The future of Knaresborough market has been covered extensively by our colleagues in the news team, so it felt timely to delve into the background and origin of the centuries-old tradition, for our local history spotlight column.
History was the common thread linking both our in-depth features published last weekend. This September, the 10-day Heritage Open Days festival returns to Harrogate and the district, giving the public free access to historical buildings and sites that are always open to the public.
We previously put together a comprehensive list of all participating venues in the area, and to give people a flavour of the diverse and rich heritage in our local area, we explored the Masonic Hall, Knaresborough Castle and Grove Road Cemetery in greater detail.
We also published our interview with John Wynne, a familiar face for many visitors to Mother Shipton’s cave – he’s been working at the attraction for over three decades, and had plenty of tales to tell about his years on the job.
Switching focus from Yorkshire to further afield, our food writer Yemi takes readers to every corner of the globe through the power of food. Last week was a culinary trip to Asia courtesy of a delicious kimchi recipe – as well as plenty of tips for how best to enjoy the dish.
Coming up this weekend, we’re highlighting the events taking place on Yorkshire Churches Day, which offers visitors and residents another chance to explore the history that shaped their local area.
We also spoke to a Harrogate woman who has used her own fertility journey and experience of living with endometriosis to set up a support network and destigmatise conversations around women’s health.
If you’re a music lover, you won’t want to miss our conversation with the brains behind Cold Bath Road’s AAA – we talked about musical democracy, innovation and much more.
Our regular Photo of the Week column is still open for entries, even for non-subscribers.
You don’t have to be a professional photographer either – if you’ve got a phone or camera, and a passion for capturing images that showcase the very best of Yorkshire, don’t hesitate to send your snap in to letters@thestrayferret.co.uk.
We’ll then post it on our website, newsletter, and social media platforms, so others can enjoy it too – with credit to yourself of course.
Finally, subscribers to the Stray Ferret can take advantage of a range of fantastic exclusive offers, discounts and giveaways from local businesses, which we regularly update.
This week we’re highlighting our partnership with Regal Flowers, on Harrogate’s Kings Road. Subscribers can save £5 off when they spend £30 in store or online.
Don’t miss out on quality local news in the district - by subscribing for just £4.99 a month or £49.99 annually, you will be able to access all daily news, in-depth features and lifestyle content as well as a whole range of fantastic exclusive discounts and offers.
