Inspectors have raised concern over staffing levels and handling of medicines at a Harrogate care home.
The Care Quality Commission carried out a follow up assessment at the Granby Care Home, on Granby Road, in September 2024. A report was published on the inspection this week.
The care home is currently graded as “requires improvement”.
The regulator said it assessed the care home to “follow up on some concerns we had received” and paid a visit to the home on September 18 and September 23.
Inspectors assessed the home, which is operated by Brighterkind, a company which is part of the Four Seasons Health Care Group, in three areas: safe, responsive and well led.
The CQC found that the home did not always have “safe systems for appropriate and safe handling of medicines” and did not always receive “prompt care” due to staffing levels at the service.
Inspectors said in a report:
At the time of assessment, the service had only recently implemented a new electronic medicines system which was not always effective in assisting with the safe administration of medicines.
Work was required to ensure areas of risk in relation to the environment and care planning were acted on. People did not always receive prompt care due to the staffing levels at the service. Governance systems in place did not always identify or address the issues found at this inspection
However, inspectors added that records were in place to show people’s capacity had been assessed and that “best interest decisions made when required”.
The CQC said the registered manager was “approachable and supportive” and systems were in place to ensure people were engaged in the community and activities were organised.
The Stray Ferret approached Four Seasons Health Care Group for a response to the report, but did not receive a response by the time of publication.
