Plans to build a 30-metre high telecommunications tower on a Harrogate sports pitch have been submitted.
Mobile network operator EE wants to build on land at Pannal Ash Junior Football Club because its existing rooftop telecommunications site for the area is at Harrogate College, which is due to undergo a £22 million redevelopment.
The application proposes erecting a lattice tower surrounded by a 2.1-metre-high palisade fence on land at Almsford Close.
Telent Technology Services Limited, which submitted the application on behalf of EE, said this was ‘required’ due to the existing installation being proposed for removal at the college on Hornbeam Park.
The telecommunications company states in planning documents that the new site “must be in the same geographical area to ensure that the network coverage is improved effectively”.
The proposed tower would provide 3G, 4G and 5G usage, as well as standard voice call services.
EE added that it investigated 41 other sites, but none of them met the requirements needed to build there.

The proposal has received two letters of objection so far. Residents have until July 13 to comment.
A decision is yet to be made.
