Former Harrogate schoolboy George Mills has broken Mo Farah’s British 5,000 metres record.
Mills, who attended St Aidan’s Church of England High School, ran 12:46.59 at the prestigious Bislett Games in Oslo last night (June 12) to smash Farah’s record by almost seven seconds.
The European silver medallist and Olympian actually finished fourth in a scorching race won by American Nico Young.
Mills, who just missed out on a European record, told reporters afterwards he had hoped to attack Farah’s record.
He plans to compete in a 1,500 metre race in Stockholm next before heading to the World Championships in Japan in September.
