Liquidators have been appointed to handle the winding up of a working men’s club that operated in Harrogate for more than 100 years.
High Harrogate Working Men’s Club opened at Devonshire Place, on Skipton Road, in 1901 and closed in 2023.
Planning permission was secured in 2016 to convert the first and second floors to flats but the application lapsed and similar plans were submitted.
The approved scheme retained the use of the ground floor as a working men’s club, but new plans were submitted by Leeds design agent Nicholas & Nicholas Limited in May last year to convert the site into two flats.
Those plans did not include retaining the club. A council planning officer agreed to the request after concluding it was not viable for the club to continue.
A construction management plan was signed off in July last year, paving the way for work to start. Bradford firm Octane Construction is overseeing the project.

The formal process of winding up the club — and more than a century of history — is nearing its conclusion.
According to documents uploaded this week on public records journal The Gazette, Steven Hodgson and Christopher Wood of Leeds insolvency firm Clough Corporate Solutions Limited were appointed liquidators on May 7. A resolution to voluntarily wind-up the company, signed by director Christine Ann Court, was also agreed.
A notice to creditors, dated May 14, said:
The directors of the company have made a declaration of solvency and it is expected that all creditors will be paid in full.
