A man has been charged with possessing a hammer at a church in Harrogate.
Nathan McGowan, 31, denied the allegation, which is said to have taken place at Harrogate Baptist Church on Victoria Avenue on Thursday last week (June 12).
But he admitted a separate charge of assaulting a man at the same location on the same day.
McGowan, who gave his address as council homelessness unit Fern House on Spa Lane in Starbeck, also pleaded guilty to possessing a different offensive weapon — an ashtray — at the scene.
The claims were heard at York Magistrates Court on Saturday (June 14).
McGowan is due to attend another hearing at the same court on August 8.
The Stray Ferret reported last month that two people and a dog had been camping at the church without permission since the start of May.
Lead minister, the Reverend Ann Chesworth said at the time the church was “seeking further advice to enable them to move into suitable accommodation as soon as possible”.
