A plan to convert a former estate agents in Harrogate has been approved.

A Tate Developments Ltd tabled the plan to North Yorkshire Council to convert the former Strutt and Parker offices on Princes Square into nine apartments.

Planning documents said the flats would comprise three one-bedroom units for a single occupant, five one-bedroom flats designed for two people, and a two-bedroom flat suitable for four people.

Each flat would include an open-plan living, dining and kitchen area, along with a bathroom and storage space.

A planning statement submitted to the authority said the move would help to create living space in the town centre.

It said:

The proposal to change the use of the property under permitted development aims to create nine new apartments in the centre of Harrogate. This initiative will add valuable living space to support the growing business community in the town centre.

Council officers have approved the change of use proposal.

Meanwhile, the developer has submitted a separate application to create a four-storey building with ground floor parking to the rear of the site to help facilitate some of the apartments.

The developer said scheme would “fill the current void” between 13 Princes Square and the back of Harrogate Library.

The council has yet to make a decision on the second proposal.
