A series of pop-up police offices is to appear in villages near Harrogate and Pateley Bridge.

The initiative, which will begin on Sunday, August 10, will enable members of the public to meet police officers to discuss concerns and arrange home prevention crime visits.

North Yorkshire Police constable Mike Spittlehouse said the initiative was designed to make the force more visible in the community in the wake of the fatal hit-and-run collision just outside Pateley Bridge shortly over a week ago.

PC Spittlehouse, a member of the Harrogate outer safer neighbourhood team, said the pop-up police offices will appear monthly between August and October on a trial basis.

A police van will appear for about an hour each at Pateley Bridge, Summerbridge/Dacre Banks, Darley, and Hampsthwaite.

If successful, more sessions will be organised in spring next year.

Writing on social media, PC Spittlehouse said:

After recent events in Nidderdale and the tragic fatal road traffic collision outside Pateley Bridge I have decided to roll out our mobile police office in effort to reach out and make myself more accessible to the community.

My intention is to set up a pop-up mobile office every second Sunday of the month across a number of locations in Nidderdale. The first session will be held on Sunday 10 August 2025 at Pateley Bridge, Summerbridge/Dacre Banks, Darley and Hampsthwaite.

If you see the mobile office set up in your area then please do pay a visit and say hello. I will be there to listen to any concerns you may have and be available to provide advice should you need it. I will also be taking bookings if you would like to arrange a home crime prevention advice visit.

PC Spittlehouse added that he hoped the initiative would take place every second Sunday of the month.
