Readers’ Letters is a free weekly column giving you the chance to have your say on issues affecting the Harrogate district. It is an opinion column and does not reflect the views of the Stray Ferret. Send your views to letters@thestrayferret.co.uk.
Here are some comments that readers have been making on the Stray Ferret this week. The first is on a call to scrap the Station Gateway scheme in the wake of this week’s Spring Statement.
Completely agree the gateway scheme should be scrapped. The problem is the people in charge of this waste of money have had no business experience. Having recently spent £830,000 resurfacing Ripon‘s market Square and further money wasted on forthcoming recycling bins. It is time this council is held to account.
Gordon Lund
The next comments are on an article about proposals to increase parking fees.
Can the council please explain why car parking fees are so much more in Harrogate than for Northallerton for example. If this council thought itself to be fair, why aren’t all car parking fees equal across North Yorkshire?
Richard Coppinger
I’m sure residents will be heartened to hear that yet another hike in parking charges will go towards new parking machines, lighting and branding. We are told this will improve the customer experience. Really?
