A long-established Harrogate salon and beauticians is set to close next month.
Sheila Henry, which is somewhat of an institution in the spa town, has announced it is set to close as of November.
Located on Mowbray Square, the business was founded by Sheila Morton in 1973 as a hair salon and introduced beauty treatments in the early 1980s.
The current owner, Angela Charlton, joined the business in 1987 and worked alongside Ms Morton until she purchased the firm in 2017.
The salon offers traditional beauty services including massages, nail treatments and spray tanning, as well as more specialised treatments such as electrolysis skin tag removal and laser hair removal.
The salon posted an announcement on social media stating that the business is set to close as of November.
Ms Charlton added that a new solo-salon is set to open in a new location on East Parade soon.
The statement on social media said:
Yes, the rumours are true. Sheila Henry is to close its doors on 1st November 2024.
After many years of serving the local community at Sheila Henry, I’ve made this difficult but heartfelt decision. It’s been an incredible journey filled with unforgettable memories, and I’m so grateful for your loyalty and support over the years.
But this isn't goodbye—it's just the beginning of a new chapter. I am pleased to announce that I will soon be opening a brand-new solo salon nearby. This new space will offer the same level of exceptional service you’ve come to love.
Stay tuned for more details on the opening date and new location.
Thank you for being a part of our salon family. Your trust and support mean the world.
The Stray Ferret has contacted Sheila Henry for more details but has not yet received a response.
Sheila Henry Apartment plans
Plans have been submitted to North Yorkshire Council to transform the existing Sheila Henry salon into two apartments.
The plans show that the unit will be turned into a one-bedroomed ground floor flat and a second two-bedroomed flat which will occupy both the first and second floor.
The plans state:
Whilst the majority of the Mowbray Mews development is for residential use the Coach House has been used as treatment rooms and a salon since 2007.
The present tenant intends to move the existing business to new premises in Harrogate at the end of November 2024, after which time the property will become vacant.
A design and access statement adds that “the property lends itself to subdivision".
It adds:
The conversion of the property can be achieved with limited internal structural alteration and without changes to external elevations.
The planned apartment block
North Yorkshire Council are yet to approve the plans.
