Sub-zero start but Harrogate district avoids snow
Temperatures plunged to sub-zero overnight in the Harrogate district, but the forecasted snow has not caused morning disruption.
A Met Office weather warning for snow and ice began at 7pm last night and is still in place until 11am today (November 19).
It prompted at least one rural school — Forest Moor School in Darley — and local attractions RHS Garden Harlow Carr in Harrogate and the National Trust-owned Brimham Rocks near Pateley Bridge to announce morning closures.
North Yorkshire Council’s fleet of gritters ran throughout the night but the predicted snow failed to materialise.
By 6am this morning, neither rail company Northern nor the Harrogate Bus Company had reported any local travel disruption.
Temperatures, however, did dip below freezing and are expected to do so every night until the weekend, with a low of minus four degrees expected. There is, however, expected to be plenty of sun.
