When it comes to successful sports clubs, the attention is drawn to performances on the pitch.
The players are the ‘front men’ – their exceptional talent attracts the plaudits. However, it is often what goes on off the pitch that ensures a club can operate.
Unpaid volunteers work behind the scenes to keep the wheels turning out of their passion for the club and the sport.
The same can be said for Harrogate Cricket Club.
With so much going on, the club would not be able to operate to its full potential without the likes of Ian Glen — who has been involved at Harrogate since the 1970s.
He first joined the club in 1971, where he played for the junior side. He also helped with scoring. Now, Glen helps keep the clubhouse in good shape.
In a video interview with the Stray Ferret, the volunteer talks about the evolution of the club, women’s sport and meeting Sir Geoffrey Boycott. You can watch the interview below.
