Knaresborough is to have a repeat performance of the successful Party in the Castle event this summer, so long as a fundraising campaign launched by Knaresborough & District Chamber hits its target.

The Chamber needs to raise £5,000 to fund the proposed event on June 28, which would feature a live screening of Glastonbury Festival.

Knaresborough Castle yard was used two years ago for a celebration and screening of the King’s coronation.

On that occasion, Cllr Matt Walker, the Liberal Democrat member for Knaresborough West, contributed £2,500 of his £10,000 locality budget towards the costs of putting it on.

But locality budgets – money allocated to individual councillors to allow them to support initiatives in their area – have been halved since then, so this time all the money will have to come from sponsorship and crowdfunding over the next 10 weeks.

The Chamber is urging local businesses to back the event with £250 donations, and several have already pledged to do so, but individuals can support it too.

Knaresborough Chamber’s Kelly Young said:

If lots of people donate £10 or £20 that will really help, and it would be so much better than leaving it to all the same people and businesses to come up with the money.

I hope people rally round and help to make this happen. We did it for the Coronation, and this will be the third year we’ll have shown Glastonbury.

It’s the best community-based free event we do for Knaresborough. It’s a great day – everyone’s welcome and everyone can afford it. We’ve never had a single complaint about it – everybody absolutely loves it.

Anyone wanting to support the event can contribute to its costs here.
