Environmental experts will take part in a free public meeting in Knaresborough this week on the latest plans to improve the River Nidd.
Nidd Action Group has organised the drop-in session at the Centre on Gracious Street on Tuesday (February 25).
The Nidd was granted bathing water status by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs last spring because of high levels of pollution.
The meeting will update people on progress since then.
There will also be short presentations by academics and experts on water quality.
Representatives from Yorkshire Water, North Yorkshire Council, Yorkshire Dales River Trust, the Wild Trout Trust and the Environment Agency will be amongst those present.
A University of York academic will give the opening presentation on a new £1 million, five-year Yorkshire-wide study of river pollution.
Nidd Action Group chairman David Clayden said:
There's a great list of speakers and it’s a good time to review the plans by the Environment Agency and Yorkshire Water that few/no-one have yet seen for investment in the Nidd.
This is in response to Knaresborough Lido’s bathing water ‘poor’ classification, and the efforts of Nidd Action Group and local MPs, councillors, and citizens.
The event will start at 4pm and will last until 7.30pm, with refreshments served throughout. It is free to attend.
