A newly formed steering group set up to revive retail in Knaresborough is expected to hold its first meeting this month.
Traders gathered at 1858 bar and restaurant last Sunday to discuss ways to improve the town centre. The main talking point was whether to create a Business Improvement District.
The Stray Ferret attended the meeting. You can read more here.
Angela Mountain, a member of Waterside Residents’ Association who has an Air BnB property in the town, led the meeting and urged attendees to sign up for a steering group to take ideas forward.
We contacted Ms Mountain this week to ask what the response had been and what happens next. She said:
So far 17 people have signed up to be part of an initial steering group. We are planning to meet at the end of the month. In the meantime, we are aiming to put out surveys for business owners, voluntary groups and residents to send us their ideas on what would improve Knaresborough
One of the main issues brought to us so far is parking. There is just not enough for people working in the town and for the amount of visitors we receive. Local businesses and voluntary groups promote Knaresborough by doing wonderful events in the town but are let down by North Yorkshire Council not supplying adequate parking. This is an area we definitely need to look at.
I am sure we will be given plenty of other areas to tackle.
