Whixley Cricket Club have won this year’s Addison Cup final.

The village team beat Knaresborough by five wickets with only three balls left to play.

Knaresborough put up a respectable first innings of 167 for 4, after half centuries from Blake Weymouth and Greg Pickles got them off to a good start.

But it was not enough to stop Whixley, who posted a score of 170 for 5 to win.

This is the first time in the club’s history that Whixley have won the Addison Cup.

Established in 1922, it is one of the oldest cricket competitions in the world.

Whixley narrowly escaped the drop from division one of the Harrogate and District Amateur Evening League.

They finished two points ahead of Knaresborough, who will join Studley Royal in division two next season.
