Councillors back plans for residential schemes in Ripon
Plans that would see the creation of 12 new dwellings at two prominent Ripon locations have received the strong support of city councillors.
At last week's full council meeting in Ripon Town Hall, members welcomed the proposed developments which, if approved by North Yorkshire Council planners, will see conversion of the upper floors of the former Halifax Bank premises on Market Place South and total redevelopment of the the former filling station site at Skelllbank.
Each of the schemes will see six residential units created and Cllr Peter Horton said:
We should wholeheartedly support both proposed developments because of the enhancements that they will bring and the new homes they will provide.
I recommend that we express our strong support for them.
His fellow councillors agreed and the North Yorkshire Council planning department will be advised of the recommendations for approval.
The former filling station at Skellbank
The Skellbank site, which has stood derelict for more than 20 years, is on a key tourist route to Fountains Abbey and, if planning consent is granted, the former petrol station building will be demolished to make way for the erection of six self-contained residential apartments, with associated parking.
In the city centre, the former Halifax branch, which closed in November 2022, will see the opening later this year of an Edinburgh Woollen Mill store at ground floor level.
The owners of the premises, which is next door to the town hall, are seeking approval for creation of six residential units to be located in the upper floors of the building and a single storey extension to the rear.
