The paddling pool at the Borrage Green children's play area in Ripon has been temporarily closed to protect public safety.
The pool, which has proved popular with families during the recent warm weather, was drained after parents reported that paint covering its concrete surface had started peeling off.
North Yorkshire Council workmen were on site this afternoon (June 24) using a concrete sander to remove the blue paint.
The Stray Ferret understands the concrete will need to be sealed and re-painted before the pool can be brought back into use.
The white patches show where the paint had peeled away
Councillor Andrew Williams, who represents the Minster and Moorside division on North Yorkshire Council, contacted the unitary authority on Friday after parents alerted him to the paint problem.
He said:
With the paint peeling away it was making the pool dangerous and North Yorkshire Council took the decision to drain it and order remedial works to be carried out.
I hope that the pool can be back open again as soon as possible.
