A new 'micro hotel' is set to open its doors to the public in Starbeck next week.

Starbeck Micro Hotel, at 47 High Street, will be a series of seven small apartments available to rent for short-term stays.

The apartments are located above the ChilliChick’s takeaway on the High Street.

As the name suggests, the micro hotel’s rooms are all small.

They include a single room with a bed, living space and small kitchen area. They also have en suite bathrooms and outward-facing windows.

Business owner Mark Leicester told the Stray Ferret why he had decided to pursue this venture:

My main business is in chimneys. My engineers often work away from Mondays to Fridays and have to look for cheap accommodation to stay in.

I wanted to tap into that market for cheap, short stays. I think there is a gap in the market for that in Starbeck.

Mr Leicester said that prices will be reasonable, at around £50 per night, but may fluctuate slightly.

The business owner also runs ChilliChick’s, which is directly below the new flats.

He said that, despite it being open until 10pm, there is no danger of it being too noisy for occupants:

With regulations for insulation, every wall is like a double wall. You won’t be able to hear what’s going on in the rooms next door, or in the takeaway below.

Mr Leicester has lived in Starbeck for 40 years and says that he wants to help bring money into the area.

The hotel has been an ongoing project for about a year.

He has liaised with shop owners and is offering visitors discounts for local stores such as the nearby Post Office.

Rooms will be available to rent from the end of next week.
